Re: [RC] At the end of my rope.. - Catherine Pritchett

Thanks Delores, good advice. I have not used clicker training myself, only watched it, but it does appear that timing would be absolutely crutial, perhaps a bit more so than with other methods? Concerning Clinton Anderson, yeah I saw that tape of him crawling all over the horse as a "human brush". Ha, ha, don't think so. I'm too darn old and as you say, too short for that silliness! He's fun to watch evolve, as he's getting older, he's mellowing out a bit. Saw Dennis Reis do the same thing.

I love Clinton Anderson. But, since I'm not 6' tall or 25 years old, I can't
DO the things he does. In order to jump onto the horse, I first have to
teach it to stand by a mounting block :) I've found that combining Anderson
and the clicker is an ideal way to go. Break it down, go slow, be clear and
you've got it.

In fact, combining the clicker with ANY good horsemanship technique you use
will get you faster results with a more thinking, receptive and less
reactive horse.

BTW, you can't do clicker training wrong. You always get what you reinforce.
So, if you are getting something you don't want look at how its being
reinforced. Then, either stop reinforcing it or reinforce something else to
take its place.
