RE: [RC] [RC] Skyrider saddle revisited - Ranelle Rubin

Just another little plug of experience for the Skyhorse/Skyrider
saddles..bought a new horse..5 yr old Doc son with very little whither
as of now..on went the Skyhorse, off we went..slow ride on a trail he
knew..mostly walking, some slow trotting, some stopping to talk to
friends on the trail, etc..all in all, about a 2.5 hr ride..back
palpated w/absolutely no issues..will of course check every ride..

Gota love it!

Hi,
The Skyrider is not a true Aussie saddle, but Colin has recently taken
over
the right to produce these saddles and is adding the option of the
Aussie
"poleys." The saddle appears to have hinged panels to fit "any size
whithers." Since I live 20 minutes from Colin, I decided to check one
out
this weekend, but he didn't have any left. So I am on the list to try
one as
soon as they come in.

In the past, I have purchased two saddles from The Australian Stock
Saddle
Co., and they were both from Colin's "Classic" series, which are made
in
India to his specifications. They were very nice and held up well. The
difference between the Indian-made saddles is that they are not as fine
a
quality of leather, but still very nice and durable, and they are
machine
stitched. The true Austrailian-made saddles are hand stitched and
therefore,
three times the price.

Hi all -

Not too long ago, someone mentioned the Skyrider saddle. I checked it
out online and spoke with Colin Dangaard (who now sells a version made
in India), and the upshot is that I've ordered it.

I've searched RC archives, and can only find reference to the Skyrider
in posts from the years 1997-1999. I don't know if these are the
original or the re-makes, in any event, there was not much info.

I'm wondering if anyone here has used these, what did they like/not
like, what sort of pad did you find worked well for you, and what kind
of girth. The girthing system is a "tackaberry", which seems
very similar to the "Y" rigging some of you use on western
saddles.
I'll
have it for a two-week trial and would like to try it in as many
situations as I can and (since it's main attraction for me was the
promise that it would fit many different horse-shapes) on a variety of
horses, my own and my friends'.

I come from an english saddle background, not much experience with
western and none with aussie.

Thanks!
Rosalie
