[RC] first endurance ride - Alice Yovich

I have some friends that I ride NATRC with and we're planning to do some LD rides this spring. Well, we thought we were planning to do LD this spring. One of us has decided that since she rides open, she's going to jump right in and do a 50. I say "no thanks" to her myself, but I'm really tickled that she wants to try it and I'm happy to route for her. My question is...how hard is it to jump right into doing 50's? In open, you ride anywhere from 50-60 miles in a weekend, so the thought was that 50 in one day wouldn't be such a stretch. And, we're not doing it to "win" anything, just to complete. So, I would appreciate input. I guess I'm feeling like a wimp a bit for not wanting to try the 50's too (but I just can't imagine)
