Re: [RC] leg wraps - Karen Sullivan

Again, inquiring minds want to know the science behing a clay poultice....how can it remove heat?  Especially if all trussed up with plastic or paper......?

Sure not a criticism, just wanting to  know.....the mare I used to own who completed her first Tevis this y ear, was expertly wrapped after ride thanks to Lucy, with clay, paper and then some sort of support wrap.....her  legs next day when we removed poultice looked great, not a bit of stocking up....

Subject: [RC] leg wraps

Hi Karla,
My ride home is much longer so I use a different method.  I like to ice after the ride and then wrap with cotton padding covered with 3 or 4" fleece wrapping.  When it's time to head home, usually the next day for me, I take off the leg wraps and use my shipping boots.  I like using the plastic wrap over the clay because its easier to apply and holds the clay in place.

With Warm Regards,
