Re: [RC] Arabian Nationals - UGH - Jon . Linderman

well now c'mon lets not be the way we don't want others to be. I go to
arab nationals on occasion w/my wife. i actually enjoy it more than she
since she competed in it from the time she was about 11 until she was in
her early 20's . she asks me what she ever saw in 3-gaited and equitation
riding. I dunno honey, maybe the fact that you are anal retentive and you
loved all the discipline you put into it? fact is she loves arabians &
after shes done "foaling" our newest 2-legged addition I hope I can get her
a 1/2 arab for her most recent anal retentive venture in dressage.

I cringe at the "B" name as much as anyone else & how the $ that backed him
hurt the AHA, but I do respect that people use the beloved arab horse in so
many ways. lets be honest, as small as the registration #'s are for arabs,
do we really think the breed would survive if all they did was run through
the woods clad in biothane? no I am not crazy about seeing the warm up
ring for the stallion classes and what those poor horses go thru, but then
there are a few people I've seen in endurance who could use a lesson or two
in humane treatment as well. i guess we shouldn't jump to the conclusion
that everyone showing arabs is in anyway shape or form like Mr B. Just
like I hope people don't assume that my standard bred race horses are
drugged, nerve blocked, or in anyway treated inhumanely.

My wife's last purebred before she moved to 1/2 arabs was a really big
gorgeous horse. without bands, stretchies, weights, or bizarre shoes his
movement screamed 3 gaited horse. he woulda sucked at endurance,
guaranteed. as far as looking like a saddlebred I dunno. you can buy
yourself several "top" arab 3-gaited horses for less than the price of one
decent 3-gaited saddlebred & then they don't really move like saddlebreds
anyhow. heck, for the price of one of william shatners saddlebreds you
could have at least 2 nice endurance horses, the trailer to haul them with,
and probably a years worth of entry $ to boot.

i say lets embrace everyone who puts the arab thru its paces whether its
roping cows, halter, endurance, on the track, pony club, or whatever. hey
these little suckers can do alot and it'll take everyone from tuxedos, to
wranglers, to saddlebums to keep the breed going.

so they don't move the way you think they should, trust me not all arabs
move like an endurance horse.

My boss just returned from the Arabian Nationals and
brought lots of glossy literature back with her. I
know I'm preaching to the choir here, but WHY OH WHY
do people who apparently want to ride Saddlebreds
instead breed Arabs to LOOK and MOVE like Saddlebreds?
One ad in the show program is a pic a Saddlebred-clone
Arab and actually dares to exclaim "The new vision of
the Arabian Horse". EEK!!!! Kristi (who likes Arabs
that look like Arabs!)

Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off)
