[RC] [RC] need ideas for good horse area in the west - DreamWeaver

The Carson Valley-Garderville/Minden/Washoe Valley area would
be my choice..Less than an hour from the nearest airport is always my
criteria..With good cover, horses can live all winter unblanketed
(except a few severe cold snaps-care to comment Karen C???)..I lived in
Lake Tahoe for 6 yrs and wintered my horse in Garderville every
year..You can ride almost any time. It does get hot and has limited
water on the trail in summer, but that's when you drive 30 min and get
up into the Sierra's...The Tahoe Rim Trail is an amazing place..the
Carson Iceburg Wilderness/just to name a few...

Well, prices have skyrocketted here too, as much or even moreso than Reno because land is so limited. I know Vegas has gone bonkers too. Listings on my block range from well over 500k+, and they aren't all on lots as large as 5 acres. But we do have unlimited access to BLM land and can ride just about anywhere in the Pinenut range which goes to almost 10,000 feet, and has plenty of water. The riding here is great, I don't have to trailer and have some of the best trails from home that I have ever ridden in all of my travels. Pretty soon people will be selling out and moving back to California, where it's cheaper. (funny that)

I only blanket to keep the horses clean, not because they need to be blanketed (like if I know they will roll in the mud and I'll spend all the remaining daylight scraping them clean instead of actually riding them). They are all pretty furry right now, I don't remember them being this furry this early maybe we will be in for a really hard winter this year?

I think I'd probably really enjoy living in Southern Utah, it is beautiful there and sooo many wonderful trails and places to go ride. Someday I'd love to have large pastures for the horses to live out their years on.
