Re: [RC] [RC] Pat Oliva in the Hospital - Cynthia Eyler

Has anyone heard how Pat is doing after her surgery?  She's always so unstoppable that it's hard to think of her being laid up.

My Pat Oliva story:

The afternoon before my first 50, I stepped down from the trailer dressing room as we were setting up camp -- and stepped into a hole.  Twisted my ankle *very* badly.  My camping buddies put ice on my ankle and gave me drugs and then wrapped it up for me, all the while trying to convince me that I should not attempt such a tough first endurance ride (Michaux Madness Extreme Endurance) with a non-functioning ankle.

When it was time to check in with the ride manager, I hobbled over to her trailer with my friends and was limping around (actually, barely able to ambulate) when Pat saw me and asked what had happened.  Then, this retied ER nurse sternly informed my friends that they were to wait on me hand and foot.

Did it ever occur to Pat that I shouldn't attempt this as my first 50 -- hell no.  She was just trying to minimize the damage.

p.s.  I completed the ride!
