Re: [RC] Utah and other mountain states - Chris Paus

Gosh, does it have to be a mountain state???

My parents grew up in Utah and ended up settling in
Kansas. Yes, we have no mountains here, but the air is
clean, property prices quite reasonable, and an
abundance of places to ride. You'd be surprised how
many Californians move here!

In the eastern third of the state, we have lots of
trees, hills, interesting terrain. Within an hours'
drive of where I live there are a half dozen state or
county parks with lakes and equestrian trails. We have
MOTDRA, NATRC and AERC rides close by. I can do a
couple of distance rides a month almost year round if
I want to and not have to drive very far.

One other thing that keeps me here is great equine
vets. I'm so pleased with the level of vet service
here.

Yes, it gets hot and humid in the summer, but I
usually can ride in most of the winter. When we get a
bad weather spell it doesn't usually last too long.

We can see the stars in the sky, hear coyotes yip, and
rarely hear emergency sirens yet are close enough to
cities for services and the occasional city fix.

I would like to hear from any riders/horse people in
Utah (or any other states outside of CA) about their
experiences. We live in California and are looking
for a place to relocate where we can hopefully have
horse property; this would be a retirement move so
we have lots of flexibility. The goal is to find
someplace where the cost of living (i.e. the cost of
owning multiple horses) is much lower than in the
Bay Area, that has a lot of natural beauty, clean
air and water, fewer people and good access to trail
riding and hopefully a good horse community. Thanks
in advance!!
