[RC] OT - Nigerian scam - Kristi Schaaf

It is a scam.  It's called "the Nigerian Letter".  


So what is it with Nigeria and scams? I discovered
over $2000 worth of charges (done in a few short days)
on my credit card yesterday that I didn't do, and
after a long time on the phone, found out that my
credit card number had been stolen online somehow by a
Nigerian fraud ring (they have merchandise shipped to
a willing participant in the US, who then ships it to
Nigeria). When the middleman in Kansas was caught
recently, they just shifted the delivery to Virginia.
Fun fun...the online retailers I talked to via phone
were quite bummed because they are responsible for the
fraudulent charges. I'm surprised that they don't ALL
have the software to compare credit card info with the
buyer's info to make sure it's a match, although one
told me that it would cost $100,000 so that might be
the reason...
Kristi (creditcard-less for at least a week till my
new one arrives - I'm in withdrawal!)
