For what it's worth from a newbie, my five year old Morab mare colicked in
the pasture a week ago Saturday for the first time ever - as a front was coming
in. Fortunately got her over it without medical assistance. Stable
manager down the road said she'd had four horses colic in the last month, every
one as a front was coming through (western South Dakota).
