[RC] Arabian Horse Numbers - Mary Ann Spencer

The market went caput and has never recovered.  One can't recoup any expenses to even break even unless one is in the mega bucks group and then I have to doubt them as well.    With many people working more than one job or being a two job family to survive and hang onto what they have in livestock, breedings are down.

Hmm, seems there is a complaint about crappy horses.  It is difficult to breed for what others want.  Yrs ago read an article that said one should breed for what one likes.  In US, there are just a lot of people with a lot of different likes.  A few yrs back I was riding with a group who mostly rode Arabians.  Maybe it is nitpicking but one farm was breeding knowing the tails were cocked sideways on the horses.  Yup one doesn't ride the tail but it sure looked 'strange' and surely might be related to overall balance of the horses.

Beauty and functionality are in the eyes of the beholder.  Horses are expensive.  Many are giving up some luxuries.   Times change.

As a matter of fact, there is a movie out:  In Pursuit of Virtue, which is about the transition of the Army from horses to motorized vehicles.  Won't say anymore as it is a movie worth the watching, especially on rainy days.  BTW, when WWII started the US Army was still using horse drawn equipment, as well as most of the European countries.    Times change but the breeding for fads won't keep up with the changing of fads.
