sounds like you have your work cut out for you with the 17 year old mare.
if you want to do some rides next spring, maybe you could borrow a horse to see if it is really what you want to do. someone just posted about a horse that was available for lease, that needed some miles on him.
if you are considering breeding the 17 year old mare to get your "dream foal", then you are 5-6 years away from being able to ride it. maybe you would think about using that money under the mattress to buy a horse that is ready to ride? ed
