Re: [RC] FEI and 100 mile competitions - Dabney Finch

The Swanton Pacific 75/100 was the same day as the Arabian Nights FEI, and
the turn out for the SP 100 was definitely affected by that. (Although the
75 had an excellent turnout.)

I was saddened by this because Barbara McCrary said at the awards banquet
that they might have to cancel the 100 if the turnout stays that low. (100s
are very labor-intensive to put on.)

I certainly have nothing against FEI 100s, but I do adore the friendly,
low-key atmosphere of this ride--not to mention of course that it is THE
Most Beautiful (and one of the toughest) Trail(s) in the World!

I'm wondering, though, whether most of the folks doing 100s now are
motivated more by the "glamour" and "fame" of the FEI stuff, so that we
will end up having rides like SP either becoming FEI, or having to cancel.
