[RC] [RC] Tendon Injuries - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I see several mentions of severed tendons and that horses won't
survive this.... A deep digital flexor tenotomy is a surgical
proceedure where the deep digital flexor tendon is intentionally
cut completely. It's done in extreme cases of founder, where
all other options have been tried. The horse will never be more
than pasture sound following this surgery, but they can survive
(which they might not do without it). I would think that an
accidental tendon severing might survive as well, if they are
treated post-severing just like the post-tenotomy horse. But, it's
long and intensive treatment, and without it the severed tendon
will not heal correctly even for pasture soundness.

Of course, I'm also picturing that if a horse's tendon is severed
accidentally, that BOTH the deep & superficial tendons would be
cut?? I can't see that healing correctly, but that's just my
gut reaction.
