[RC] [RC] Pros & Cons of Wild Horses - tomnoll

Greetings:

The pros and cons of wild horses thread leads to a simple observation.
There are horses with impeccable endurance pedigrees running at the front
of the pack, and also horses with impeccable endurance pedigrees running
at the back of the pack. Likewise, there are horses of unknown and
obscure origin running at the front of the pack and at the back too. In
fact as Naomi Preston pointed out, there are even horses of unknown
pedigree in the Endurance Hall of Fame.

So, in the blue-blood breeding debate other critical ingredients are often
overlooked. There is the rider, the trail, training, nutrition, desire,
luck, and the most ephemeral of all, magic.

Luck is easy to define because it is all probabilities and odds. Magic is
different. Magic is that quality that happens when the horse and rider
are truly working in harmony ? whether it is for a few steps, a few miles,
a ride, or a few rides.

Pedigree may or may not buy luck ? that question has been endlessly
debated and never answered. But no quantity of money can ever buy magic
because magic comes from the heart.
