Go see a good chiropractor and have him check to make sure your outer lower leg
bone (tibia??) isn't out of whack with your knee.  I say this because I have
EXACTLY the same problem when I trot downhill for extended periods, and this is
ALWAYS the problem.  Once he puts the bone back in place, I'm good to go.

Don't know how to prevent it, just how to fix it, sorry.  :(
