Fw: [RC] those VERY fast gaits - Donald H. Monroe \(Don\)

Trotters at todays harness racing tracks average 31 or 32 MPH.
Dan Patch an Indiana horse first broke the record in 1906 by doing a mile in
1 minute 55 seconds. If my math is correct that is 31.25 MPH. See the Dan
Patch story at:

Anything up there above about 8mph is probably something in the "rack"
category, altho all sorts of different terminology for it may be used
correctly or incorrectly, etc. The "speed racking" 20mph type thing is in my
view something of a stunt, rather than a practical gait.Such a gait MIGHT be
useful on a trail, but looks like it would be unsafe in open country/broken
terrain.
