Re: [RC] [RC] Speed of Gaited Horses/Mules - sharon13598yo, around 14.3h, Arab / Rocky Mtn. Horse gelding: These speed estimates are my best guesses for his current abilities. Haven't ridden with a GPS for over a year and he's gotten a lot faster since then. Walk: 2-4 mph Foxtrot: 4-6 mph Stepping Pace: 6-8 mph Trot: 8-12 mph Extended Trot: 12-15 mph Canter/Gallop: 12-18 mph This is a horse who only learned his intermediate saddle gaits (foxtrot and stepping pace) a little over a year ago. Before I bought him, nobody thought to find out whether he was gaited. After miles and miles of walkingwalkingwalking, bam, he was gaiting! :) He was REALLY SLOW when he first started, but he's getting faster by the month. -Sharon Kenney & Zephyr's Elegant Gift =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
