Re: [RC] [RC] Horses!!! stop with the height - Truman Prevatt

Frank,

A-men!

My favoriate horse of all times is the great John Henry. If there were the money in TB racing in the 80's as today, he would have won 100 million!  He had 85 starts and didn't finish out of the money in any. He won on turf, on dirt. He won running backards in Europe and forwards in the US. He was horse of the year twice (the only horse to win it twice in nonconsecutive years). Yep the first time he was an over the hill TB at 5 - then the second time was really over the hill at 9!

He had "very poor" breeding. His conformation wasn't good - nope he'll never hold up. He should have been dog food according to the "experts."  But he wasn't and he kept winning and winning and winning.

What makes him better - he was just better. It helped that he had one of the best jocks of all times riding him - BTW the jock that he ran out (chasing him over the fence with his teeth beared at 27 years old)  of his paddock at Kentucky when he took the crew filming Seabiscut to see a true legend. The key is he had an owner and trainer that belived in him and prepared him for battle - very few of which he ever lost!

It ain't blood lines, it's the horse and the horse's preperation.

Truman

'better is better'.....I've been left in the dust by tall horses with short riders, short horses with tall riders, tall riders with no clue, short riders with no clue, tall riders wearing shorts running next to short horses who have no clue.....yeah, BETTER IS BETTER and it's funny how THAT group of horses and riders have one thing in common....no, not bloodlines....PREPARATION and the OPPORTUNITY to show it.
