My gelding JJ has white socks to his knees (he's a chestnut), and as far as I can tell,pretty strong hooves as well as scratch resistant legs...even with all the mud this summer. He also doesn't seem to be bothered all that much with the bumps and scrapes one gets on the trail. I use desitin on his legs and white blaze (nose) and he hasn't gotten sunburned. I never liked white socks on all fours on a horse before him, but now I do. :)
