Re: [RC] [RC] Horse Identification (Kyro Kinetics) - elsietee

Does anybody have a picture of a grey horse's
freeze mark? I am thinking of getting Kyro Kinetics
to freeze mark my greys, but I'm concerned that it
will not show up well and would like picture confirmation.

KK freeze marked both of my greys a few years back.

I was looking at my gelding's mark yesterday and it
is showing through LOUD AND CLEAR. He is fairly thin
skinned, so the process worked really well on him.

The mare, OTOH, didn't get such a good result. You
can see there's something there, but without shaving
the place (even with a thin summer coat), you'd have
difficulty reading it.

For grey horses, they hold the branding iron (?) on
for a longer time than with brown/black horses, to
completely kill the hair follicle (instead of just
stunning it into producing white hairs as they do
with coloured horses).

I seem to remember it was in the 20 second range for
greys, and perhaps my mare began to move before she
was properly cooked?

Try as I might, I'm unable to find anything other than
a partial photo of Provo's freeze mark (I do have one
pic taken from about 20' away where you can more or
less see it). My camera is on vacation in Switzerland
with my husband right now, but if you're desperate,
email me in a week or two and I can take pics of both
horses' marks.
