I just heard a scam with a car purchase. Buyer sends a certified check
for you to deposit for more than the cost to cover shipping as well.
The seller is then asked to wire payment to the shipping agent. In
this case it was a fancy car and shipping was going to be $7000. After
you deposit the certified check everything looks fine so you wire the
shipper his payment. Problem is that the certified check is fake and
your bank tells you two weeks later and your account is charged back.
You are out $7,000.

Never ever wire money direct in advance of delivery. Yes, today you
would ALWAYS have to use some kind of escrow service for a large
transaction like this.

In the above scam, seller was then told that the buyer had died and
they wanted to cancel everything out. Could he send back the funds
from the certified check as well, this ALL before his bank had a
chance to find out the check was a fake.

This is a HOT scam and is throughout the market on internet buyer,
seller postings. Beware, lest you get VERY burned with regard to your
"It's too good to be true trailer purchase deal".
