[RC] Lower back issues and endurance riding? - rides2far

My dear husband has been crewing for me on my rides, setting up camp,
preparing wonderful meals, supporting me in every way, as well as
doing P&R's at the vet checks (i.e. serving as a rubbing post!). He is

now contemplating trying the sport out for himself, but he has chronic
lower back issues. If any of you have advice for him in terms of
saddle type, breed of horse, etc. please let us know. Thanks very

Chances are his back will improve once he quits doing all your grunt
work. >g< He's not the first guy I've known who started to compete to get
out of crewing for their wives. Just make sure his saddle lines his feet
up with his shoulders. A chair position will make him lean forward to get
over his feet straining his back. I'd rather trot than canter since I can
trot sitting straight up but have to lean forward to canter. Anything he
can do to strengthen his abs will help support it. Some ride in a back
brace. If he can get you to quit competing and set up his vet check for
him that will help too. >g<
