Fw: [RC] I'd rather walk - Dot Wiggins

I love good QHs, but I'd rather walk than ride some of today's examples.
But the good, old, all purpose working horses I'll take anywhere.
And I like good Arabs, too. Riding one now, my last QH is getting old.
(24, he's enjoying retirement baby sitting weanlings/yearlings.)

But I think my all time choice is the Arab/QH cross.
Best of both worlds.

There are fine, useful, tough, healthy horses in all the light horse
breeds, if you get out of the show circles.
It's not very practical to put the time, training and money into a horse
that isn't going to be there a long time.

Dot is right on the mark with this. The old-time QH, just like the
old-time Arab, was a riding horse--and had a fair degree of longevity. It
is what has happened to the QH in the modern quest for the extreme that
has shot the breed down, just as it is with the Arabs. When you find
old-timey riding QHs they are a whole different story--just like the
old-timey Arabs are...
