not like Arabs was because they never seemed to get their hocks 
under themselves. They always had their rear legs trailing out

That's an extremely common stereotype of Arabians.  It, of course,
stems from all the Arabians that are bred for level hips in order
to acheive the "tabletop topline" by breeders who see only the 
outline of the horse and are clueless about structure and form to
function (or just don't care).

Another source of that stereotype is the way EP/Park horses are 
trained and shown.  Cranking up the front end, hollowing the back,
and bouncing on the kidneys does tend to create horses that leave
their hindquarters somewhere way out behind them.  Check out just
about ANY photo of an EP/CEP/Park Arabian in the glossy mags.
