[RC] gene glascock-long rider - Ed Kilpatrick

well,  i got to meet mr. glascock tonight. he is the long rider who is riding to all the state capitals in the lower 48 states.  he has completed 25 states.   he stayed over with a friend of mine in chattahoochee, florida and is on his way to montgomery, alabama.   he was quite an interesting fellow, and had so many stories to tell.  he talked about his artic circle to the equator ride from 1984-1986.  he said he first attempted that ride in 1961, but got blood poisoning in his feet, so literally and figuratively fell flat on his face.
a few things that really stood out in talking with him,  people have been very generous to him during his travels, providing food and lodging for both him and his horses in many situations.  he said he doesnt always make the newspapers when he comes through, but thinks it is nice when he does.  he said the secret to successfully completing long rides is to be prepared  and be mentally tough.   we talked for about two hours, so there is plenty more, but cant share it all!      ed
