RE: [RC] [RC] boots for trail riding - Howard Bramhall

No kidding. And, the other thing is that the wimmen will rip up their T-Shirts off their own backs, to use as a tourniquet, if their horse is bleeding. Once I saw that during competition, I knew I was hooked on endurance forever.

As far as boots go, Wal-Mart sells these Hermann Survivor lightweight military type, high top, ankle protecting, hiking boots that I adore. I've learned, doing endurance my way, that walking and running on the ground alongside your horse will be required sometime during the day. I need a riding shoe that I can walk and run (trot out) in and I have yet to find a pair of Ariats that allow me to do this for a long period of time. My Wal-Mart boots cost 35 bucks and I normally have 3 or more pair floating around the house and trailer.

Endurance riding boots must be made so you're able to walk in them comfortably, like a hiking boot, and this military style boot, the kind they use for marching, does the trick for me. I guess I'm just reliving "the good ole days" from my Air Force memories, but, hey, I don't remember hardly ever marching at all after boot camp, till I started endurance. My Air Force, she was very, very good to me. lol.

cya,
Howard (these things also work great in the mountains where walking next to your horse, or tailing, another aspect of endurance where I really suck, is even more common)

Seems like people are pretty casual about riding footwear
these days. I regularly ride in cheap running shoes. They are
big enough that it is unlikely that I could get my foot through
the stirrup (one can use a cage, or safety stirrups, if worried
about that), and they are light, comfortable, cheap and dry
fairly quickly. I also ride in a pair of cheap short lace-up
leather boots not designed for riding (though they look like
'paddock' boots.

One of the first thing that attracted me to endurance is the
fact that people are not hung up on clothing!
