[RC] horses spooking and spinning - Ed Kilpatrick

the best advice i can give you is to train your horse to do one rein stops, and neck flexing excercises.  this helps the horse to calm down in stressful situations.  it will also keep the horse from spinning and dumping you.  you need to practice it enough in the arena, so that you and your horse know what to do.  then you will be ready to use it out on the trail.  i do the one rein stops and flexing excercises with all the horses i work with.  it takes care of so many problems.  rearing, head tossing, bucking, refusal to cross water, spooking, you name it, this will fix it.  it takes some work on your part, but it is worth it.     ed
