Re: [RC] Multiday rides with multiple horses - Laney

Will your friends also have horses, especially ones your horse knows? If a horse can see other horses it knows, even if they aren't it's most favorite buddy, it'll feel better. Something to do at home is to take both horses (& maybe a friend) to a local riding venue. Ride off on one & stay gone for a short while (15 minutes up to 1/2 hour). Have your friend watching the "left" horse and report on it's behavior. Gradually lengthen the time you are away from camp on the first horse so that the "left" one learns that her buddy will return. Then reverse the process if you'll be riding both horses at Bryce of some other ride. Also, make sure your tieing or corralling arrangement is safe and sturdy.

All,
I really would like to take two horses to Bryce Canyon this year. My girls are real attached to each other and I am very worried about leaving one behind. Especially, the first couple days. I do it all the time at home, but the one left behind is at home and usually settles down pretty quickly. I am not sure this would be the case at a ride. I will likely have friends in camp this year to keep an eye on the one left behind, but this whole scenario still makes me nervous.
Does anyone with experience in this have any recommendations for managing this problem, or ways to work on this at home before going? Thanks, Jennifer
