RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] WS 50 ACCIDENT WE WERE THERE - Catfish Daniels

OK - let's not talk about civil suits - that is not at all what's gonna do Endurance any justice. I fully support that people should take control of their horses as to not endanger others around you. But this guy is being blamed for something without anybody knowing his story. I know for a fact that at this very same section of the trail, even before and after that point, is very trecherous. I got the heebie-jeebies on that section more than on the actual California Loop, and because that section was early on in the ride, there was a number of times where there was stop-and go, and with all the dust, horses slightly bumped into me, and I probably did the same. Hey, a horse died here - that's an enormous blame to throw at any person. Let's not do that all so quickly - and my gosh, this incredible Western States Trail and the history behind it - let's not ruin that with words of "civil suits" etc.

Sounds like grounds for a civil suit-- or maybe a lynching.
Now I know why I carry mace--maybe we need to carry crops-- or start throwing things out of our saddle packs at jerks like this.
Think he owes her a horse......

We were 1 horse back from the accident. The lady riding the horse was having a hard time controlling her horse. The man
(medium height skinny man riding a smaller gray horse) was riding so close behind her that we thought they were riding together. They weren't. He continued to ride up behind her having his horse make contact with hers. We told him to give her some space maybe her horse would relax or clam down. He totally ignored us. it happened at the beginning of the ride approx. 1/4 mile east of Kuputz Spring. We were going down to El Dorado canyon which is very narrow switchbacks, the lady's horse stumbled and couldn't get its footing, the lady fell onto the trail, and jumped up trying to get her horse up on the trail and the horse started falling down into the canyon below. THIS COULD OF BEEN AVOIDED BY GIVING HER SOME SPACE.
