[RC] ride in Wisconsin - June Scheunemann & Mike Bernsdorf

OK now I'm alittle upset and kinda take this personal since I'm a Wisconsin
rider. I was at the ride this weekend. We all forget what's it's like to
be a new rider at a ride...however, there was plenty of water on the trail
at this ride. I have never seen this trail with so much water ever before
and I've ridden this trail since I was 5 yr. old....I won't say how old I am
now but, old enough!!! There were water buckets out for drinking every 6
miles of trail for everyone and riders were told this at the riders
meetings. There is always someone going out to the half way point to
transport feed/bucket/blanket/people and horse food to the vet check. My
husband had over 5 people throwing things into his truck to get out to the
vet check. If you didn't have your stuff ask...there is always someone that
will help at these rides...I've never heard anyone refuse any horse or rider
anything.

If you were a "newbie" you should make a point to tell ride management and
ask them to point out someone to talk to about the trail or ask if they
could steer you to someone you could ride with. We have people through out
our state that love to take new people out. This is an oportunity to suck
all the information out of them (knowledge of pacing/ caring for the horse
on the trail...the differences between the rides styles)...and more than
likely get your stuff to the half way. YOur horse will have an oportunity
to buddy up and relax with others and hopefully make your ride experience
more fun.

Another thing to watch for in different states is clinics. I know that
there are several "distance riding " clinics held in the early spring
through out Wisconsin and Minn and Ill. This is the chance for anyone
interested to meet people and gain information of riding. I knew of 2
clincis in Wisconsin this year...by 2 separate groups of distance riders.

If you think WI people are not considerate...talk to the person who had the
unfortunate incident of a horse suffering gas colick on the trail and how
many people helped and made sure she and the horse had everything they
needed.

We hope to see you back on the trails again.....you're wlecome to look us up
and we'll help you any way we can....but, we have horses to take care and
don't always see new people unless they introduce themselves to us.

I really think you're are not being real fair to the ride manager and to the
ride. We manage a ride ourself at this same site and yes sometimes make the
mistake of assuming everyone attending has the same knowledge of the trail
and the sport...and unless made aware of this fact when people are signing
up it is something that can be easily overlooked since a ride manager has
more than one thing to worry about.
