Re: [RC] Have you hugged your RM lately? - Kristen A Fisher

Dean - I was using my Toklat Woolback girth on my mare and it was galling her. Even though while standing the girth did not touch the area, with the movement the skin was getting pinched/rubbed between her elbow and the girth. I switched to a string girth [suggested by the good folks on RC] and it totally cleared up the problem.

Subject: [RC] Have you hugged your RM lately?

Jimmy and I just completed our second ride (50 miles) last weekend at the Sunriver Ride near Bend, Or. We both had a blast and the RM did a FABULOUS job! I even received an email on Monday that was sent out to all the riders thanking us for doing such a good job of cleaning up! Now don?t THAT beat all! After what has transpired lately on RC about RMs I have decided to go out of my way to ALWAYS thank them (and the other volunteers) and plan on bringing them something to show my gratitude. Understanding budgeting, they clearly aren?t doing it for the $$$$. Everyone needs to vocally express their gratitude and appreciation for every ride they participate in!

On another subject, after the above mentioned ride, Jimmy developed some galling in front of the cinch between his front legs and chest. I have seen this before on one of our other horses but never on him. This was the first time using a Tolkat sheepskin cinch (as opposed to mohair) on a long ride (this was his longest ride ever). The galled area was not being touched by the cinch. What are possible causes and remedies?
