[RC] Off to the XP - DreamWeaver

Here is some info on the first week of the 5 week long 1250 mile XP ride. The riders have ridden from Bucklands (Fort Churchill) to the Cold Creek Reservoir, near Eureka, Nevada the first week. This information isn't official and probably isn't 100% accurate, but it's the best I've been able to get thru occasional cell phone contact. I'm heading out there tomorrow to ride the 2nd week and will hopefully come back with more information and lots of photos!

I did hear that Don Funk and Geronimo did ride all 5 days this last week, and that would put Geo at over 10,000 miles. I've also heard from more than one person that they both look great and are doing very well! Geronimo's Warrior is a Spanish Mustang stallion. Don is an Idiot Out Wanderin' Around. (he's from Iowa and that is a joke for those that don't know what Iowa stands for) :+)))

Sounds like the ride has settled in comfortably in a nice camp next to a reservoir where they are able to fish, swim, and relax. They have been having potluck bbq's and it sounds like everybody is having a great time and in good spirits. Just like the pioneers, Annie said that today they went down to the creek and did their laundry in buckets.

The group has been small this time -- about 20 riders or slightly less each day (not everybody is riding everyday, and some chose to miss some of the first few days to hopefully avoid getting scratches). The days are long, and hard, and it's been hot. This is what real endurance is all about. They have to pack up camp and move each day, and are riding more miles than most endurance rides are in a day over some very difficult terrain. The Nevada section, from what I remember of the 2001 XP was some of the more difficult sections and I felt that way even tho I had ridden for several weeks before getting there. I really envy those that are fortunate enough to participate for the entire time. I had my once in a lifetime adventure in 2001, and hope those attending this time will have as great a time as I had. These are special times on a historical trail, those that get to experience it are really fortunate. Karen
