Re: [RC] [RC] Caja del Rio Ride Report - Magnumsmom

Damn, Joe!  Broken you say?  Didn't look that bad the way you
were hobbling around.  Rats.  Do anything you need to, just don't
rebreak it, ya hear?  Make sure you take care of yourself as well
as you would take care of your horse.  Remember, taking care of
yourself IS taking care of your horse.

This ride was great!  And not just because it was in our own
backyard.  The ridemap / vet card was done on waterproof
paper... not glossy... by Travel Bug, here in Santa Fe.  They
are AWESOME.  Travel Bug will do a custom map / printing
for your ride too.

The NM Horseman's donated mucho time, effort, and awards.
Some of them even came to join in.  What a great organization.

Corry and David and HorsesDacor donated awards, time and
of course tons of experience.  They also donated their rig as
a windbreak for the ride banquet, and their tables for the same.

Roger and Sue Taylor unselfishly were there to enthusiastically
support Deidre and us riders with whatever was needed.

Our own San Marcos Feed and Desert Wind Saddlery pitched in
with great donated horse tack awards.

Tom Parker as head vet was awesome.
Deirdre as ride manager was awesome... hopefully we'll hear from
her when she wakes up.  :)  The trail was extremely well marked.
I believe Deirdre and crew must have gone over the trail a couple
times atleast to make sure it was all well flagged.

Yeah, there were rocks you had to walk through.  The trail was
beautiful with great NM morning and afternoon views.  I ended
up camped next to Heidi Vanderbilt, a wonderful lady and
endurance rider.  She opted to RO pull due to problems with the
altitude.  All the horses were fine.  She could have gone back out
but didn't want to end up being "a problem".  A class act.  So
that was the one 55 miler non-completion.

Blue and I completed the 55 miles to put him over 1000.  Finally!
He's had 970 since Tall Pines last fall, and then we had... of course
... our first two ever pulls.  Isn't that the way it goes?  The sand
got us at PDN (rider error as always) and a cramp got us a Indian
Springs.  --- sigh ---.  But Caja del Rio put him over 1000 with an
11th place finish in great shape.  Hurray!

I got to meet several new faces, some linked with ridecamp names,
including the infamous Joe Long.  What a great way to spend
Memorial Day weekend.
