[RC] hoof chips - sandy . l . holder

Laurie,

It may be some residual effects from the EPM (I'm only guessing) as it may have taken away some of the vitamins and nutrients that his body normally stores.  My farrier told me that this was a particularly tough year on hooves (of course we're in CA but he goes to their conventions).  He reminded me to make sure I put hoof conditioner on their hooves every day.  Also he suggested to put some water on the ground around their water trough to keep some moisture in their hooves (we moved to a windier place and out to pasture versus inside a barn like they were used to).  Tally's hooves are a lot drier this year and he actually had a small crack from an old nail (1/2 inch) after our last 50 miler.

Not sure if this helps but just my 2 cents.

Good luck and let me know what you learn.
Sandy
