Re: [RC] long /limited distance - Joe LongOn Wed, 26 May 2004 10:12:52 -0400, Truman Prevatt <tprevatt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: That is an interesting point. The quantization for distance for an endurance rides is defined in the rules to be 5 miles. Therefore one could eaisly argue and technically be correct that anything from 47.50000000000001 to 52.499999999999999999 is in fact a 50 mile ride. I expect that is not what the people that wrote the rule meant but that is what it means. <sigh> The Board addressed this very issue over ten years ago, and fixed the wording to avoid this very misunderstanding. The rules read: "1. The ride must be at least 50 miles in length per day, up to a maximum distance of 150 miles in three days. 1.1 Rides are sanctioned for a certain number of miles. 1.1.1 Mileage over 50 must be a multiple of five, ending in a 0 or 5, whichever is the nearest whole number to the actual ride mileage (e.g., 52.4 miles = 50, 52.5 miles = 55)." Please note "at least 50 miles in length" in the first line, and "Mileage OVER 50" (emphasis added) in 1.1.1. What is not clear about that? A ride that is an actual 49.9 miles in length can not be LEGALLY sanctioned as an AERC endurance ride.
