Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] 100 Clinic at Liberty Run - Any Interest - Howard Bramhall

I guess I was talking more of a clinic with a ride thrown in, which I think is what Stagg is offering. A clinic with a mentor attached, all during the same week-end. Someone to talk about completing this distance and then to actually go out and do it (or make the attempt) with you. I know of the SEDRA clinic and of the one coming up at Oconee. The SEDRA clinic wasn't actually at a ride, or do I have that one wrong? I think the Oconee thing is a fantastic idea and hope the turn out is a good one. With that heat and humidity there in June one will need all the help they can get.

My point was I really would like to see more of this. Not just once a year or even twice a year event but, have it become the norm at a ride. To ride with someone like Stagg, or my gal, Val, or Steve Rojak, attempting one's first 100, or, even 50 is what I'd love to see this sport turn into. If one's goal is to not complete and turn in early at a ride one can always ride with me (that's a joke, Heidi and Kat).

I know, I dream, but, damn, if Stagg isn't making some of that become a reality. It's why he's one of a kind and you won't find a better super endurance rider willing to share with others than this man.

cya,
Howard (I do read the SERA letters you send me, Truman)

Howard,

There is one. It's run by SEDRA every year in May and takes place in central FL. It was advertised on the SERA web site for three months prior to the clinics the past two years. Two years ago Sue G was the speaker. Last year it was Dane Frazier, DVM and this year it was Meg Sleeper, DVM. There is one at Oconee WMA in June this year - for anybody. Be they new time riders or first time 50's. Details on this can be found at http://www.seraonline.org/forms/JOURNEYTHOUSANDMILES.pdf

Too cool, Stagg, too cool. I wish someone like yourself (is there anyone like Stagg?) would have a clinic for first time 50 milers. I think that's a group where you'd get the most action. But, 1st time 100's, man, that is more than one could ask for.

If I ever get my act together (not bloody likely), one day, I'll be there if you keep doing a clinic thing for insecure types like myself. On the last loop of a 50 (if I ever make it that far at a ride) I start to see nakid wimmen. Can't imagine what I'd see if I ever went past that distance. IF I ever start seeing nakid men then, it may be time to call it a day. Call it Rider Option due to mental imbalance.

This is what is needed to get folks to move up. The clinic thing is something we should do at every ride. Throw that in with some mentoring at the ride itself and the number of 100 milers (at least entries) would increase.

Howard (how bout those Flyers?)

That is my long term goal, to do a 100. The 25's will be just
part of the time that has to go in to get there. So, at least you now
know
1 SE rider that has the goal of a 100 once my horse is ready.

Kathy,

Glad to hear your interest in doing 100s! Wish you success to the goal
and let me know if I can answer any questions.

And to folks going to Liberty Run:

My wife and I plan to go and bring a couple of our newer horses
and perhaps my 20 year old. Would be willing to do a clinic
on completing 100 milers if there is interest.

Is there?

Stagg

I can tell you after sleeping in a tent, then in my truck, then in the back
of a trailer, then in a gneck trailer w/no LQ, and now in the new-to-me LQ
one, you don't sleep any better the night before in nicer digs - you're
just more comfortable while you're lying there obsessing :)

You don't have to be a 100-mile rider or a multi-day rider to be an
endurance rider, but if you want to experience the finest challenges our
sport has to offer, you need to do both of those.
