RE: [RC] [RC] Redefining 'Endurance Ride' - heidi

Times have changed. We are doing things better in this area and will
continue to do so.

Yep. And one of those "changes for the better" is that LD horses now have
to pulse down at the finish before the clock stops on their ride time.
This change has gone a long way toward eliminating the problems
encountered due to not being able to "get hands on them" at very many vet
checks. And this change alone makes LD rides a completely different
"flavor" than endurance rides.

In order to run LDs under the same rule system as endurance rides (which
one would have to do if they WERE endurance rides) we would have to
eliminate this and other safeguards that have been built into the LD
system. (And Howard, I agree--the health of the horse comes first--WAAAY
ahead of people's egos who think they need to have LDs called "endurance"
just so they can say they did it.)

If it is the name you find offensive, then as several have suggested,
think of another name and see if you can get The Powers That Be to
consider a name change. But to roll back the clock and turn LDs into
endurance rides again is contradictory to your goal of putting horse
welfare first. The differences are IN THERE for the horse welfare, for
gosh sakes...
