[RC] Survivors' Trek PS region (rides like the old days) - Jonni Jewell

This is a note from Roxanne Greene, who is the manager of the Survivor's
Trek on MAY 1 and 2. She is away from E-mail this week. If you want more
information, I have a second note, that tells more. E-mail me, and I will
send it to you. If you want to ride, and have enough information, then drop
her a note, or call and leave a message. (but because she is out, don't
expect a return call right away) Anyway, here is info, and her note.

Here's the skinny on the Survivors' Trek:

We're looking for a few good riders !

This is an old-fashioned ride which hasn't been done since 1993 and even
then it was on a different route. It will be two days-riding out to a
camp(or the side of the road if they won't let us in) and back the next day.
It will be 50 miles each day, and the first day will be all uphill. In
keeping with the nature of the mountains in the Angeles National Forest,
that does not mean that the second day is all downhill. According to
current plan, a lot of it will be on the Pacific Crest Trail, so it will be
a little slow going. There will not be a lot of water provided, so you must
ride judiciously.

Bring a small rig, or plan to leave everything but your truck at basecamp,
which will be at my house. There is no room out in the mountains for
humongous rigs. Small trailers can go out there, but otherwise, plan to
sleep in your truck. Bring as much water as you can to the overnight camp.
We don't guarantee we'll have all you need, or any for that matter.

If we know you are coming ahead of time, Ann Nicholson may be talked into
making dinner for us. Dave Nicholson will vet the ride if I can keep him
from riding it. Bring whatever you need for breakfast, lunch, and snacks
on the trail. We'll try to have something to eat back here at the house on
Sunday. If we fail, there is a Coco's nearby, and a couple of real good
Mexican restaurants. You can use our showers here at the house and the
barn.

Make sure you have warm jackets and blankets for your horses because
sometimes it's pretty cold where we are going. Don't ride without your
jacket and your emergency gear. We will take water to the "noon stop" each
day, and some hay and grain.

Plan to clean up your camp out in the mountains. We can't leave much
behind, especially if we end up camping alongside a mountain road.

One would think that logic would prevail. But then, if logic did prevail,
men would ride sidesaddle.
