Practice riding bareback: in the ring and at slow gaits at first
until you get comfortable, then in more challenging
places/speeds as your seat improves and your confidence
increases.  I swear by it: I grew up riding bareback, and while
I'll never win any equitation classes, I have a psycho-horse,
and and though I do occasionally find myself clinging to his
neck, I have yet to come off him (except once when he fell.)
