Re: [RC] re: [RC] Setting Fire to Tents in FLA ... Howard! You STOP THAT!!! - Jon . Linderman

"...a new friend, she mentioned a horrible experience she had at
her very first ER ride that was a few years ago in Florida.
Because of it, she will never participate in ER rides again.
..., someone cut a couple of tents with a knife, and another one
was set on fire! "

I don't doubt that something like that has occured, but I'd suspect that
vandalism was not from the people at the ride, but from locals like down at
Spook Run or perhaps even horse people who get upset when we take over
horse camps for rides.......BUT ascribing criminal behavior to an entire
group of people from one incident is borderline biggoted.

If people who own breed X (fill in your favorite scorned horse breed)engage
in Y (fill in your favorite form of equine cruelty)........does it mean
everyone who owns that breed does the same thing? Movie stars live in
California, therefore, all Californians are movie stars. Charles A. McCoy,
an Ohio resident, shot at cars on the freeway, therefore all Ohioans shoot
at cars?! There was vandalsim at an endurance ride, therefore all
endurance riders are vandals. Paleeez! Talk a bit too simple minded
logic.

On a whim I schlepped up to MI last year to Petoskey for AHAM, largely
becuz my friend had so many glowing things to say about the MI endurance
crowd after her midnight axle twisting trailer disaster in the sand. Gene
Dake comes right over shakes my hand, compliments my horse, "nice bone",
and helps me set up my pasture & awning. Linda Hamerick's husband takes me
out on the course and shows me the road crossings and vet checks to drop
water. Next day I am dead last in the 50 just plugging along in the sand
near the 8 hour mark when along comes Maggie & Nelson Mieske bringing cool
water for me & my horse. These people didn't know me from Adam & I live in
Ohio to boot! I'd take 99.99% of the endurance people I've met over almost
anyone in the horse industry or really in any walk of life, just really
awesome people. I'd trust them w/sharp objects or matches. Tell her to
read about the wonderful stories in EN & give it another try. Shes
missingout on some great people & great fun!

Jon
