RE: [RC] 1000 mile horses a dime a dozen? - Bob Morris

Actually David, when you add it all up it shows 4577 horses with 1000 or
more miles and 4118 riders with 1000 or more miles. But then you must
realize that quite a few riders have brought along more than one horse.
Between my wife and I we have had nine horses attain the 1000 mile mark
at a minimum.

That's really interesting. I'd have never guessed that there would be
more horses make 1000 miles than riders. Thanks for the figures! Do you
know how many different horses and riders there have been?

OK as near as I can tell from a look at the horse and rider
awards, i.e.
medallions awarded, the following is how it stands as of this date.

MILES HORSES RIDERS
1000 2928 2019
2000 1053 1031
3000 464 687
5000 119 315
10000 6 79
10000 7
15000 34
20000 11

Heidi recently said that 1000 mile horses were fairly common.
I'd dispute the dime a dozen bit - that's 20 50's which
amounts to over $1200 in ride fees alone! But it did make me
curious - how many horses make it to 1000 miles? 2000? What
proportion of riders make it to 1000 miles?

I've found the columns on various statistics of our group
interesting, and this is something I'd like to know.
