Re: Education for distance riders, was RE: [RC] [RC] Preventingtreatment - Truman Prevatt

There will be a letter in the March EN describing one such effort. The AERC provided funding to SERA for an endurance demonstration at the Georgia Horse Fair in Jan of this year. It went very well and was a good investment in the future, IMO. This sounds like a very good program.

AERC is in good shape financially and generating surplus funds, and there
are some suggestions being discussed as to how to start giving the money
back to the members - to the organization. This will probably be on the
agenda of one of the meetings in Chatanooga. One particular suggestion has
been to allocate an annual pool of funds (e.g. $5000) for each region to be
available for specific projects or requests, at the regional level. Two
recent examples of AERC co-funding projects include matching funds for
improvements on BLM lands, and funding an Endurance demo at a regional horse
fair. Excellent opportunity for grass roots projects.

The door is open right now - this is the time to get serious, and specific,
about the funding of educational and/or trails programs. Send your ideas to
your directors, or submit some ideas for programs. Develop a specific
project and submit it to AERC with requests for funding.

I am also going to push very hard to have AERC develop a 5-10 year business
plans. Who are we, and where do we want to be in 5 years, in 10 years, in 20
years? Get involved, send in your ideas, your concerns, suggestions. The
Board makes the ultimate decisions, but needs to have input from the
membership. It makes a difference.
