RE: [RC] AERC Reply to Request of 2002 Horse Death Info - Steph Teeter

I have also been
"chastised" :) for submitting an "inappropriate" post to Ridecamp
detrimental to AERC because of the "sensitive" nature of the subject. >>

Hey - not by me! I think this issue needs to be aired. In any equine sport,
some horses will get hurt, some may die. It is ridiculous to hide this fact
behind a 'watch out for PETA' fear. I believe we should be open and
proactive, not keep it in the back closet. Admit the risk, deal with it,
minimize death and injury any way that we can. I don't think we'll ever
elimate incidences - too many factors including accidents and pre-existing
conditions. But we can sure pay a lot of attention any time there is an
incident - and put our energy into understanding it, out of which may come
more solutions for future prevention.

Steph
