[RC] [Guest] Allergic to mountain lions - Ridecamp Moderator

Mary Abbott mabbott@xxxxxxxxxxx
Anyone encountered this before? Friday night, we had a mountain lion around our barn. Saturday morning one of my horses, a 15 year old 1/2 Arab gelding, had swollen eyes, legs and "private" parts, but a perfectly normal temperature. I called the vet... As you may have already suspected, he thought it was probably an allergic reaction. We discussed hay, etc. He didn't think that was it, as I hadn't changed anything recently. Just kidding, I said something about whether he could have been alergic to a mountain lion, because that was the only recent change around here. Well, would you believe he said that could've done it?! Not that it was the lion, exactly, but the STRESS. As we all know, nothing scares a horse like a mountain lion, and the swelling could've been a stress reaction, he said. Interesting! My horse is fine now. (But I sure hope that lion stays away!)
