Re: [RC] [RC] Improving the walk, - Maureen A. Fager

Jennifer asked "How DO you teach a horse to lengthen in the walk."

Lif mentioned "As everyone has mentioned who's experienced the
power walk, once you've learned to loosen up your waist and let your butt waddle with the gait, it's very fast, very smooth."

I am beginning to believe that a rider with with the loose waist and hips really influences the speed of the walk. I think riders who are stiff in the hips slow the horses down, perhaps the hips and seat can't keep up with the horses motion??

This is my observation as the horses I have owned have been slow walkers, and I think the missing piece is me, not them, and working on looseing up my hips and relax has helped the horse walk out, however, it is difficult for me to maintain this.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

Cheers,
Maureen
