Re: [RC] Was Traveler, now standardbreds - Truman Prevatt

I trided to do this from memory. In '84 at the time Womac published his book, it was 2:20 (I did check it). He also stated that the time had been decreased over time since the first standard. So 2:30 makes sense.

I believe Maggie is right on the 2:30 mark, back "when".  Pacing world record dropped under 2:00 in the early 60's (I think) & are now under 1:50 for both trotters and pacers (pacers being faster) & now of course standardbreds are a breed & have a closed stud book.

Subject: [RC] Was Traveler, now standardbreds

Beg pardon. The 'standard' was two and a half or three minutes back then, I think. Many of today's successful harness racers are just barely breaking 2 minutes. Back then, the equipment wasn't as balanced, nutrition wasn't as good, etc.

A that time a standardbred was any horse that could pace or trot a mile in the standard (two minutes).
