RE: [RC] [RC] treatments in AERC rides--> now idaho - sindy mccosker

You should move to Reno. If you want to ride year round that is the place to be. When we lived up there we rode 364 days out of the year. You are still close to S. CA if you get homesick. We thought the schools were great and the kids always felt safe. Lots of horse stuff happening all the time. You will never get bored.

The Coeur d'Alene area is BEAUTIFUL! But not the best horse country. The
winter's are pretty long but not excessively cold, plenty of snow and rain
and gray skies, but not really really cold like you find east of the
Rockies. Summers are too short for me, we moved from that area down to
Southwest Idaho for longer riding season, more sunshine, more trails, better
outdoor country and much more horsey. There are logging roads to ride on in
N. Idaho, and some trails - but the trails take a lot of work because they
get overgrown quickly.

Culture, restaurants - yes. Bugs, not too bad. Boating, hiking, yes.
Beautiful green scenery yes. Ride all year? no.

Speaking of which, I'm a lifelong Southern Californian. We are pretty
seriously toying with the idea of relocating to Coeur d'Alene. We want to
raise our kids somewhere where they can be safer, and have room and open
spaces to play on, as kids should, along with the horses. Can you Idahoans
tell me what it is like up there in terms of trails, rides, places to buy
with a bit of acreage and relative costs? Do you love it up there? Will the
weather just kill me after living here my whole life? How severe are the
winters, and can you ride all year? Bugs?
I would really appreciate it. Is there some culture and restaurants and a
little nightlife and shopping? From what I have seen, I would die to live
somewhere that gorgeous, but want to make sure it isn't so alien that I
can't adjust. I'm used to being able to ride year round, even at
night-that's a big plus for training and keeping fit. It is just so
expensive and crowded here. Slowly trails get lost to suburbia, though I
live in a ideal horse town for around these parts.

Thanks a bunch-it will be nice to hear from real horse people who live
around there instead of just brochures. I am a Nuclear Medicine tech BTW, I
assume job hunting should go smoothly and that you have some advanced
imaging centers and hospitals up there.
