Come and do Prineville sometime. Nice ride. They got permission from BLM or
FS (dunno which) to put up little wood diamonds.

occasionally I've had a sign that says 2 miles to 
vet check 3 or something like that.  

There's so much more that you can use. At about 1/2 the rides, maybe more,
the RM tells you that it is some distance to where the trails cross, or
where there is water. Sometimes down to the 1/10 of a mile. I use these to
know what my pace is and to figure how far to the vet check. Though the
markers are very nice, there's a lot more people can use, which was my point
to Kristen.
