[RC] HRM question - Jennifer Thompson

*Dumb question alert!*

So I finally broke down and bought a heart rate monitor. I got a Polar, the basic model.

The question I have is about placement of the two electrodes. The instructions say to place one under the girth on the near side, and the other under the saddle pad on the off side.

I am concerned about the electrode under the saddle pad. Couldn't that bother the horse, and possibly cause a rubbed or sore spot? Seems with all the concern we have with getting the most perfectly fitting saddle, and the absolute best padding systems, that putting a piece of hard plastic under there would be worrisome. I've seen people place both electrodes under the girth, one on each side....would that work for me, despite what the instructions say?

Anything else I need to know? I've never used one before and aim to try it out this weekend. :)

Thanks,
Jennifer
